William B. Badinelli, age 91, of Woodlawn Heights, passed away peacefully Friday, April 6, 2018, in Fayetteville, NC, the home of his daughter and son-in-law.
Bill was born on June 5, 1926, in New York City to William and Caroline (Nagel) Badinelli. He attended St. Barnabas Grammar School and Cathedral Prep High School and graduated from The Catholic University of America. He spent over 35 years working for Blue Cross Blue Shield of New York. Bill was an active member of St. Barnabas and a daily Communicant. He served his parish for 70 years as an usher, a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society, the Men’s Club, The Parish Council and St. Barnabas High School’s Advisory Board. He was also a dedicated volunteer in the community, serving as President of the Woodlawn Heights Taxpayers & Community Association and Chairman of Bronx Community Board 12. He loved his faith, his family, and his community, especially the neighbors who made East 238th Street a wonderful place to live. His favorite hobby was driving, and he travelled to 49 states, only missing Hawaii because he could not drive there! Travels often included visits to his lifelong Josephite friends at their seminaries and parishes. He also loved reading and the New York Yankees.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Rosalie Corry. He is survived by his children Bill (Ellen) Badinelli , Roann (Thad) Lewis , Betsey (Dennis) Cahill and Martin (Maritza) Badinelli; grandchildren, Kristen, Keith (Meghan), Dennis, Emily, Gregory, Will, Amanda, Melissa, Martin, Andrew, Elizabeth, Erin, Stephen, Bradley, Anna Marie, and Molly; great-grandchildren Cael and Owen; sister Carolyn (John) Miklitsch; sisters-in-law Patricia Badinelli and Marion Corry; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. and Friday, April 20, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:45 A.M. in St. Barnabas Church, Bronx, NY.
Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY
