Mary J. Rogan

Mary J. Rogan of the Bronx, NY passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021. Mary was born on May 5, 1925, to the late Gladys Ryer and John Garvey. She married the love of her life, John Rogan, on November 22, 1947. She was widowed at thirty-six years old and successfully faced the challenging task of raising 7 Rogans.

Mary was a police administrative aide for the Bronx Warrants Squad for over twenty years and loved her NYPD family. She was a proud member of the NYPD Anchor Club and the NYPD Regina Coeli Society.

Mary was a devoted member of St. Barnabas parish for over sixty-two years and was most proud of starting the annual baby shower for unwed mothers over forty years ago. She was always volunteering in the parish, and was an active member of the Mother’s Club, Altar Rosary Society, and the Woodlawn Taxpayers Association.

Mary leaves behind her beloved family. Her children John (Karen), Bob, Joe (Kathy), Eddie (Ginger), Mary (Jerry Swikata), Jimmy and Michael. She was predeceased by her husband John and her beautiful daughter Peggy. She is survived by fifteen grandchildren and their spouses, and eleven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters Joan, Ann, Patsy, and Rita, and was predeceased by her siblings, Jack, Ronnie, and Kathleen.

Mary led a very full, happy life until her last day, and will be remembered for her strong faith, kindness, generosity, love, politics, and most of all her sense of humor.

Services will be held at Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, Yonkers NY on Thursday, November 11th from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at St. Barnabas Church, Bronx NY on Friday, November 12th at 9:30 am.
