Lillie Macchiano obituary: Born September 10, 1929, died June 21, 2022.
Lillie Macchiano passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. She was 93 years old. Lillie
was born Lillie Sancimino and was raised in Brooklyn, NY during the height of the Great
Depression. Lillie and her twin brother Alphonse were the youngest of seven children.
Lillie’s mother, Mary, was a kind and supportive “listening ear” throughout her life.
Afternoon teas with her mother always made her feel better. As a young girl, Lillie loved
reading and writing and had hoped to one day become a librarian. However, her plans
changed when she met a handsome WWII veteran one evening at a neighborhood party –
our father, Rosario Macchiano. He gave her red roses (Lillie’s favorite) and beautiful,
custom jewelry. The couple fell in love and married in June of 1953.
In their years together, Lillie and Rosario made a happy Italian home in Woodlawn, NY
where they raised five devoted children – Angelo, Pauline Ann, Mary Grace, Katherine
and Anthony. Lillie was the quintessential Italian cook crafting every meal from scratch
and using only the freshest ingredients available. Lillie had her own small vegetable
garden in her backyard where she grew fresh tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, basil and mint.
Sundays always meant football and homemade sauce with meatballs and sausages.
Christmas and Easter meant special foods, too. Thankfully, her daughters Pauline and
Kathy carry on this family tradition.
Lillie loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a devout Catholic and member of St.
Barnabas parish for many years. She read her devotionals daily and prayed for her family,
her neighborhood, and the Catholic church without ceasing.
Lillie was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She
nursed her beloved husband in his final years until his death in July of 2012.
Needless to say, she took great pride in her children – Angelo and Shirley Macchiano,
Apalachia, NY, Pauline Iaconetti and Dawn Oathout, Hendersonville, NC, Mary Grace
and John Becker, Colorado Springs, CO, Katherine and Tony Pandolfo, Cincinnati, OH,
and Anthony and Diane Macchiano, Nesquehoning, PA. Lillie also leaves behind 11
grandchildren (James Macchiano predeceased) and many great grandchildren.
Lillie was a loving presence to all that knew her. We will never forget her smile nor her
tenderness and support. We will carry her love in our hearts as we remember her always.
Our heart is with you…it is your memories that give us comfort.
