Obituary of Patrick J. Murphy Jr.
On September 30, 2018, Patrick J. Murphy Jr, loving husband and father of four passed away at the age of 67 at White Plains Hospital after a long battle with a severe illness. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family that loves him.
Pat was born on September 6, 1951 in New York, NY to Patrick and Mary (Sullivan) Murphy. He was a life-long resident of Yonkers. He enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in 1970 and obtained the rank of First Sergeant. Patrick responded to the terrorist attack on September 11th 2001 spending 6 months working in Ground Zero followed by 3 years of homeland security missions in New York City. In 2004 he was deployed to Iraq where he served for 12 months. In 2008 he retired from the New York Army National Guard with 38 honorable years of service to this country. He was an active member of American Legion Post 979 and Veterans of Foreign War Post 2285.
Pat was a beloved business owner of P & T Murphy Services, a Gas Station and Auto repair shop. He was a brilliant mechanic who was known to have unorthodox methods that were surprisingly effective. The only thing he enjoyed more than fixing cars was socializing with customers and putting them to work for him. He had a quick wit, an infectious smile, and an unforgettable laugh. He was a fixture in the community and touched the lives of countless people over a lifetime of kindness and compassion.
Pat was preceded in death by his father, Patrick, and his mother, Mary. He is survived by his wife Mary, his four children, Lauren, Patrick, Jennifer and John, his grandchildren Michael, Mya and Kairi, his siblings Kathleen, Thomas, Timothy and John. As well as his extended loving Irish family.
Viewing hours will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 & Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704.
Mass will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 10:45 am in St. Barnabas Church, Bronx, NY. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to stop by the gas station and fill up your car at P&T Murphy Services 856 McLean Ave.
