Obituary of Dorothy Mosca
Dorothy Rita Mosca, age 89, of Bronx, New York, joined her husband in heaven on June 26, 2019.
She was born Dorothy Rita Brady on July 21, 1929 in Manhattan’s Lower East Side to Philip Benjamin Brady and Mary Anne “Marie” Hanley of Athlone, Ireland.
Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Dorothy lived a highly disciplined life of service to others. Dorothy was a woman with timeless class, and valued treating people with respect and consideration always. She also was very independent, meticulously managing her own household and driving until she was 87 years old.
She was well-read, remarkably witty and had impeccable comedic timing. Dorothy loved crossword puzzles, playing card games with her family, and reading the New York Daily News every morning. While adamant that there is absolutely no better place to live than in New York, she was very proud of her Irish roots and travelled to Ireland to see her parents’ birthplace.
After raising her three children as a homemaker, Dorothy took a position at St. Catharine Academy in Bronx, NY. She loved her job, worked over 20 years and earned a retirement. She was highly conscientious about being an upstanding role model for the students and young people in general.
Dorothy married Joseph P. Mosca on May 13, 1950 in the Church of St. Thomas Aquinas. For over 35 years since his death she lit candles for him weekly at Mass. When asked why she never remarried, she responded, “What for? I had a good husband.”
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Joseph, parents Philip and Marie, granddaughter Doreen Ann Bubel, and siblings, Philip Brady Sr., Arthur Brady Sr., and Evelyn Lehnert.
Dorothy is survived by her children Dr. Jeanne P. Mosca, Dorothy Cristantiello, and Joseph O. Mosca, five grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
