Obituary of Vincent Daly

Vincent DePaul Daly passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 18th at the young age of 88. As the youngest child of 3 siblings he was read last rights multiple times since he was a sickly child, even so he beat the odds and actually outlived his brother James Daly and sister Catherine Daly. In the army he was a sharpshooter & rifle instructor, he worked as an inspector in a sugar factory (his favorite job), worked for the health department (this is why he refused to eat pepperoni) and finally he became a Sr. Chemist for the NYC medical examiner as well as holding a second job for many years to ensure he is family was provided for. He was a faithful Roman Catholic who was very involved in the community, for many years he volunteered at a local soup kitchen, he was a Docent at the Bronx Zoo and received an Outstanding Citizen award from NYC for his efforts in restoring a park named after his war hero uncle, Thomas O’Brien. He was a humble and kind man. He loved baseball, swimming, reading, walking, family vacations, and an occasional Coors lite, but he loved being with his family the most. He taught me and my brother to be tolerant, family oriented, and to be respectful of others, especially women. He has been married to his beloved wife, my mom Socorro Daly for over 50 years, adopted her son as his own and had a second child Vincent Daly Jr, my brother. He leaves behind 3 generations of Daly’s: Ed Daly and his wife Peg, Vincent Daly and his wife Roberta. Grandchildren, Melissa Daly-Hammett, James Daly, Vincent Daly III and Sierra Daly as well as great granddaughter Mackenzie. Dad we love you, miss you and your memory will forever in our hearts.
