Sean Bellew

Obituary of Sean P Bellew

Sean P. Bellew Sean had a vibrant life, during which he created an admirable career, numerous friendships, and strong family ties in the United States and Ireland. He made a difference in so many lives through his easy-going personality, reliability, positive attitude, and zest for community involvement. Sean had a distinguished career in the chemical industry in the United States, Europe, and Australia.  For fifteen years, he was an industry expert to the United States government at the United Nations and assisted in finalizing the Chemical Weapons Treaty.  Sean also worked for Con Edison as an Environmental Scientist providing health and safety initiatives for worker protections.   After retirement, he had more time to focus on his interests outside of work. As an avid golfer, he played at countless courses all over the world with friends and family. Trivia became something he would participate in often, and his bright mind helped his team win many national championships. His interests included wine, with continued research and knowledge about good wine and their origins accompanied by taste tests with family and friends. His interest in history led him to create a comprehensive personal family tree detailing hundreds of related people’s lives across centuries. Sean was always proud of his irish heritage and took many trips to Ireland throughout his life. He looked forward to marching up Fifth Avenue each year in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and he was named 2020 Aide to the Grand Marshall for the Brooklyn Irish American Parade. He was a member of the Grand Council of Emerald Societies and the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree). Additionally, he assisted in restarting the Con Edison Emerald Society and served as Vice President. Sean is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Catherine, his nephew Michael, and his sister-in-law Mary.  Sean is survived by his brothers Michael and Martin, sister-in-law Theresa, nephew Thomas (Christine), nieces Catherine (Rob) and Elizabeth (Gerry), and great-nephews Robert, Everett, and Joseph. Sean spent many of his last months getting to know his youngest great-nephew Joseph, who was recently born and lived very close to him. To our brother - Rest in Peace.  We will always think of you, but especially during a golf stroke, a nice dinner out, a trip to Ireland, or a while enjoying a glass of wine. - Mike and Marty Bellew With everyone’s health and NY regulations in mind, the number of visitors must be monitored.
