Obituary of Richard Diaz

Richard F. Diaz, a long-time resident of Throgs Neck section of the Bronx, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2020. Born in Brooklyn in 1936, he was the son of the late Mario Diaz and Dorothy (Kelner) Sulla and predeceased by his loving wife Iris Diaz. Also predeceased by his brother John Diaz and sister Maria Lopez. Richard served in the US Marine Corps and played in the Marine Corps Band. For decades, he was a Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts Pack 185 troop leader, helping children from the neighborhood of Saint Philip and James Church. He was an avid fisherman, NY Jets and Mets fan, loved drum and bugle corps, and was a member of the Tarrytown Drum and Bugle Corps and Westchester Brassmen. Richard is survived by his sons David and Richard (Nancy), and beloved grandchildren Kyle, Daniel, and Jake. He is also survived by his brother, Ray Sulla, sister, Antonia Lapinsky (Ronald), good friend Jack Munoz, his loving nieces and nephews Jennifer, Benny and Hector Santiago, Christine DeLuca, Anthony and Ronnie Lapinsky, several great-nieces, great-nephews, and many more adoring family and friends. With everyone’s health and NY regulations in mind, the number of visitors must be monitored. Mourners will be asked to be patient and must prepare to wait outside the building. Visitors will be cycled through while practicing social distancing so that all may have the chance to pay their respects. Please remember, the sick, elderly and those with compromised health, should avoid public settings. Services will be held at Farenga Funeral Home. 920 Allerton Avenue, Bronx NY. Visiting on Sunday from 3:00 -7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held… Our Parishes are also practicing recommended guidelines, limiting the number of people that may gather in church. Seating for family will be designated, and friends will be allowed in as room permits, however, this will be limited. If you would like to attend the Funeral Mass, please understand that seating cannot be guaranteed and you should be prepared to observe from a distance. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 9, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Philip & James Church, 1199 East 212 Street, Bronx, NY 10469
