He was sponsored for U.S. citizenship and lived with his eldest sister Irene Conway, her husband Frank and daughter Anne. He quickly became employed on Wall Street and started his new life in America while always maintaining his love for his Irish heritage. John is survived by his wife Christine (nee Burke) of 56 years and his children; Noreen Cullinane (Ed), Paul, John (Jennifer), and his grandchildren; Ryan, Lauren, Taryn, Morgan and Connor. John leaves behind his 5 other siblings; Mary McCarthy (Teddy predeceased), his identical twin, Brendan (Mary predeceased), Matilda (Tilly) Burke (Austin predeceased), Michael (Eileen), Patrick (Alice) as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. John retired from MABSTOA in 1992 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Miltown Malbay Social Club as well as the Woodlawn Horseshoe Club; an avid golfer, card, dart and billiard player and joke teller. Such a kind-hearted and generous gentleman, John was loved by everyone he met and had a smile and joke to make you laugh each time he saw you. John was incredibly proud of both of his sons' careers in law enforcement with the NYPD and with his daughter's career choice as a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. He was always encouraging of his grandchildren and very proud of each of them.
