Miryam Jimenez

Obituary of Miryam Victoria Jimenez

On Wednesday, February 3rd, Miryam Victoria Jimenez, cherished daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, and friend was called home by God. Miryam was the embodiment of strength, love, loyalty, resiliency and joy. Her petite frame belied her humongous heart — and she gave 1000% of it to every undertaking and most importantly to her treasured family. After arriving in the U.S. from Barranquilla, Colombia in 1970, she selflessly cared for the love of her life who became handicapped in 1972; raised 4 incredible children, and received a degree in Accounting—all with her signature determination, unwavering positivity and unbridled passion. Miryam went on to work as a Senior Tax Adviser for H&R Block for 30+ years—always a client favorite. Always bringing a strong sense of compassion, humor & absolutely always going the extra mile. She was a proud Colombian but also a true New Yorker at heart who loved to show visitors all the sights. With her boundless energy she’d walk for miles showing off her beloved NYC. She loved dancing, singing, reading and cheering on her Yankees—although she was known to play hooky on occasion to go to a Mets game with her eldest daughter. Her beautiful imprint will forever remain on the hearts of those she left behind—Husband of 50+ years, Jose; sisters, Magalys (Chi-Chi) , Miryam, Fanny, Gladys, Vilma & Nora; children, Nayda (husband, Carlos), Ricardo (wife, Jackie), Milena & Lillian; grandchildren Briana (husband, Dylan), Ariel, Nathaniel, Ricky, Justin, Spanky, Riley, Bailey, Oliver, Max; precious great-granddaughter, Alayna; nieces, Sindy (husband, Dom; children, Leo, Gabby & Nico); Katia (son, Mateo); Ella (children, Valerie, Daniel & Matias; Paola (children, Andres Felipe & Gabriela); Jessica Held (daughter Isabella); Jessica & Kathy (husband Marcus, children MJ & Ethan); nephews Edgardo (wife, Carelia; children, Joseph, Edgardo & Jesus David) & Deivis (wife, Nora; children, Dominick David, Deivid Jesus & Samuel David); cousins, Hilda, Dubys, David & Mario; in-laws, Lucilla (children, Alvaro, Ricardo, Arturo, Fernando & Gladys; Rebecca (son, Waldo); and Hernando (wife, Herminda; children, Adriana & Jaime; grandchildren Diana Jimena & Alberto Martinez). Our heartbreak is mildly eased as we imagine her joyous heavenly reunion with her beloved mother, Cecilia; father, Angel; Madrina Sarita and her “little” brothers, Orlando & Edgardo. Que duermas con los angeles, mama linda. With everyone’s health and NY regulations in mind, the number of visitors must be monitored.
