Pasquale Petagine

Obituary of Pasquale Petagine

Pasquale Antonio Petagine, 84, passed away on February 12, 2021 from complications to Covid. Throughout his last years, he remained dignified and as independent as possible. He was mentally sharp to the last days before his illness and never complained. He lived his life the best he could and has left a lasting legacy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa (nee Mazzone). Pasquale was born to parents Donato and Rosa, on January 16, 1937 in Potenza, Basilicata, Italy. He was the middle child of three sons. In 1947, his family immigrated to Buenes Aires, Argentina. In March of 1968, he came to America seeking a better life. With little to no money, not speaking or understanding English, and no hint of what awaited him, Pasquale boarded a plane for America. He was proud to be an American citizen and always took the opportunity to vote. Pasquale worked hard as an iron worker for John DeLorenzo and Bros. for 42 years, until his retirement in 2008. He left us to join his beloved wife, brother, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and others that preceded him. When he joined them, we’re sure they had all his favorite foods like ravioli, rabbit and of course, espresso, waiting for him. He is survived by his sons, Donato (Phyllis) and Marcello and his daughter, RosaAngela Garippa (Michael), and six grandchildren, Roseanne Puleo (Anthony), Anthony, Nicholas, Angelina, Giancarlo and Giuliana, whom he especially loved and treasured every minute he spent with them. Pasquale was a caring and deeply devoted husband, father, nonno, uncle and friend. He will be remembered for his profound devotion and love for his family. His generosity and willingness to help and support others is how all of his friends and his family will remember him. He enjoyed watching soccer, car racing, playing cards and going fishing. Pasquale kept life very simple, but he was surrounded by riches. Not money, not possessions, but the rich love of family, his true love, and endless love from so many others who admired him. We are all truly blessed and thankful that we had the opportunity to spend so much time with our Dad and see him to 84. He will forever be our rock, our strength, our role model and forever in our hearts. With everyone’s health and NY regulations in mind, the number of visitors must be monitored. Mourners will be asked to be patient and must prepare to wait outside the building.
