Obituary of Dessie Louise Wright

Dessie Louise Wright was born October 4, 1931 in Springfield, Georgia to the late Fet Hugh Williams and Carrie Williams. She was the middle child of 11 siblings. At 19 years old, Dessie (who preferred being called Louise) Louise realized a lifelong dream and followed her sister, Ella Mae “Jacqueline” King to New York. Within a few years she met her future husband, Clarence Wright. Their union produced five children: Norma, Priscilla, Michael, Yvonne, and Sylvia. Louise worked in the Dietary Department at Lincoln Hospital until she retired in 1993 after 31 years of service. She had a passion for helping her patients in any way possible and enjoyed caring for them with food. In fact, food was her love language. Up to her very last Christmas in 2020, Louise spent her time baking fruit cakes, nut cakes and pies for her children, family and friends. She joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Bronx, NY in April 1971 under the leadership of Founder and Pastor Rev. Dr. Kenneth L. Folkes. She completed the “Christian Education Program” which culminated in her preaching a sermon at Mt. Carmel in September 1974. Although a faithful follower of Christ, she was baptized in 1977 which she counts as the day of her rebirth. She served on the Pastor's Aid Ministry and was a faithful Sunday School attendee. Always with a pleasant smile, encouraging words and a sweet treat, she loved God, loved her church, supported, and devotedly attended worship services until her health no longer permitted her to do so. Although not attending, she continued with her worship, her Facebook ministry of encouragement, as well as her intercessory ministry of prayer on behalf of those she loved, met, or heard had a struggle or a need. This past March she was celebrated for 50 years of service at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Dessie Louise Wright was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Wright. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Norma Jean Kimbrough (Quincy Kimbrough, son-in-law), Priscilla Elaine Wright, Michael Leon Wright, Yvonne Wright-Cadet (Jean Cadet, son-in-law) and Sylvia Denise Wright; three sisters: Ella Mae King, Jane Elizabeth Harris, Dorothy L.
