Christine Frawley

Obituary of Christine Frawley

Christine is survived by her 3 children; Noreen Cullinane (Ed), Paul, John (Jennifer); her 5 grandchildren: Ryan, Lauren, Taryn, Morgan and Connor as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Christine was born in NYC to Thomas Burke from Athenry and Bridget (nee Igoe) from Headford, both in County Galway, Ireland. Christine grew up in many areas of New York City as her parents were building superintendents. Christine is pre-deceased by her husband, John; her parents; her sister, Vera McCaffrey and brother, Tommy Burke. She attended school for a year in Tuam Galway and then came home to NY to attend St. Alphonsius commercial in NYC. She started her first job as a Medical Secretary at New York’s TB hospital at the young age of 17. Christine enjoyed attending the dances at Jaeger House and City Center. She met the love of her life sitting across the table from him at a City Center dance. They fell in love instantly and were a gorgeous couple. Christine and John were married in 1963 on Chris’ 21st birthday and went to Puerto Rico for their honeymoon. 14 months later, their daughter Noreen was born and shortly thereafter followed Paul and John. After a leave from working during her children’s early years, she returned to work in 1983 at Montefiore Hospital’s Endocrinology Department. She loved her job and all the wonderful people she worked there with over 25 years. Christine had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She loved to travel and loved the beach. She toured Italy with a tour group and also travelled to France and London. She always encouraged her children to go out and see the world. She was also a voracious reader and loved the New York Times’ Sunday crossword puzzle which she finished nearly every time. Christine loved hearing stories her children would tell of gatherings with friends and family and catching up on things on face book too. She had a heart of gold. She was a caretaker of both her parents, her Uncle Pete and brother Tommy before they each passed away. These last few months since her husband John’s passing have been difficult for her emotionally, but also physically with just too much going on for her body to overcome. Forever loved by those she left behind, they have comfort knowing she is at peace and back by her husband’s side.
