Obituary of Thomas F. Moore Sr.
Thomas Francis Moore, Sr., 94, entered eternal life peacefully on Saturday, April 16th surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Callanan Moore, and his son, Thomas F. Moore, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen, his daughter and son-in-law, Mary (Donald) Clinton, his son and daughter-in-law, John (Laurie) Moore; his brother and sister-in-law, John (Bernadette) Callanan; his grandchildren, John (Ariele) Clinton, James (Jacque) Clinton, Marianne Clinton, Raymond (Ashley) Clinton, Molly Moore and Marian Moore, as well as his great grandson, John Karlsen Clinton.
Born in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC on June 9, 1927 to Irish immigrants Thomas & Mary Ann (Kett) Moore, Tom proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a true New Yorker who grew up in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan, and later moved with his bride to the Fordham Road section of the Bronx where they raised their four children as members of St. Simon Stock parish. In the mid 1970s, Tom and Mary Moore moved their family to a new home in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx and became members of St. Barnabas parish. Faith in God was always the top priority for Tom and his family. He lived his life as a devout Catholic.
Tom’s education began at Incarnation School in NYC, followed by high school at Power Memorial High School, and then he received his B.A. at Fordham University and M.B.A. at Pace University, NYC. His professional career began at General Foods Corporation in White Plains before transitioning to university administration. Tom worked at his alma mater, Fordham University, followed by Herbert H. Lehman College (CUNY) and then concluding his career at Columbia University.
Tom provided a lifelong model of generosity and service to others, always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need. A devoted family man, he cherished his wife and family and made a point of helping his grandchildren travel to other parts of the country and abroad as he believed this was an essential component of their education. Family members and friends alike looked up to and respected Tom for his fine character, integrity, and outstanding work ethic. Tom Moore knew the true meaning of the word “commitment.”
Among his many interests, Tom followed politics very closely, loved to travel, and was an avid reader particularly about historical events. He was a devoted Yankees and Giants fan and possibly the greatest Subway Alumni of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish ever.
Tom will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
