Obituary of Vincenza Zito
Vincenza Zito died suddenly Monday, June 6, 2022 at just 54 years old. She was born in the Bronx on September 29, 1967.
She was named after her father’s dad but her mother immediately called her Vini - that spelling, that spirit! And she was aptly named. Fun and funny, she had a certain “je ne sais quois”... a sparkle... a charisma that could not be denied.
From an early age, her passion for art and creation was evident. Whether it was drawing, painting, or creating incredible clothing far ahead of the trends, Vini WAS art. Her education at the School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design propelled her into a successful animation career. And when she tired of it, she used her moxie and transformed into an incredible make-up artist in the film and TV industry.
She wrote, "Beauty is not in the eye of the beholder. Only you can see your beautiful self.” But to behold her beauty was a gift. It was only rivaled by her giving heart. She was sweet and good. She truly loved the people around her. If you were lucky enough to be in her life, you were likely buoyed by how she made you feel so wonderful.
She also was passionate about dogs… especially Yorkies. From Muffina to Simone and Danielle to Silky, she gave her love and care to these creatures and everyone in her orbit got to feel the love.
She had great loves but did not suffer fools gladly, devoting herself to her beloved parents, who passed away a scarce 9 months ago. She leaves behind her heartbroken sisters, Nancy and Annette, as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A true original, she will be terribly missed by all.
Vini was a gifted artist from a young age at a time when schools didn't encourage or value art as an intellectually viable academic option. We ask that any donations made in her name be to the Studio in A School arts program for children (https://studioinaschool.org/). Studio in a School serves New York City youth by integrating the visual arts into teaching and learning, and provides professional development for artists and teachers.
