Obituary of Mary Tedeschi

Mary was born on November 20, 1923 in NYC to Irish Immigrant Parents Michael J. (County Roscommon) and Catherine Rogers Kenny (County Fermanagh). Mary was predeceased by sisters Kathleen Kelly and Elizabeth Kenny and brother Michael Kenny. She is survived by her sister Margaret and Husband Laurence Herte and Family of Palo Alto, CA.

In 1950 Mary married the love of her life Francis X. Tedeschi. They settled in St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish in The Bronx, where they raised their three children, Richard, Marianne and Elizabeth.

Mary was the very proud Grandmother of five - Jeanne, Maureen, Nancy, Ethan and Liam and six great-grandchildren - PJ, Brendan and Erin Dwyer and Devin, Tyler and Ryan O'Neil.

She was also proud of her days as Secretary in the Graduate English Department of NYU, where she relished her role as part Secretary and part Therapist to her Doctoral Students, who sought her out when they needed advice or a motherly shoulder to cry on.

Mary's joy in life came from her Family, her Faith and her Irish roots. She would recite poetry learned from her Mother Catherine, brought to America from her homeland. Her thrill was to be in the Grandstands on Fifth Avenue every March 17th waving her American and Irish Flags, basking in the glory of this greatest of feast days. She was a member of The St. Brendan's (Norwood, Bronx) Leisure Club and The Whitehall Swim Club (Riverdale, Bronx) where she met so many wonderful, lifelong friends over the years.

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold our Mary in the palm of His hand.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. St. Brendans Church, 333 East 206 Street, Bronx, NY 10467
