Obituary of Eileen Mescall
Eileen Reilly Mescall passed away peacefully at home on Friday September 16th surrounded by her loving 5 Children. Eileen was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on July 4,1928 to Anthony and Bridget Meenaghan Reilly. At the age of 5, her father took the family back to Belmullet, County Mayo, Ireland and built a house in Binghamstown.
Eileen emigrated back to New York in 1948 and lived in the Inwood section of Manhattan. She always considered Ireland to be her home. However, she was always so proud to be born on the 4th of July in America. In 1953, she married John Francis Mescall at Good Shepherd Church in Inwood. Eileen and John moved to the Bronx where they raised their 5 children in the parish of St. Nicholas of Tolentine. They moved to Yonkers in 1975 and became parishioners of St. Paul the Apostle church on McLean Avenue. Eileen was very involved in St Paul's and worked on church dances, fundraisers and prayed with the Legion of Mary.
Eileen was always admired for her kindness and zest for life. She loved Cape Cod where she spent many summers at the beach and enjoyed the time spent with her extended family and in particular her grandchildren. She was very active and enjoyed ceili dancing up to the age of 85. Eileen was a devout Catholic and a daily communicant. Her faith was a source of comfort for her.
She will be sorely missed for her humor and her spirit. She is survived by her 5 children, Patricia, Stephen, John Thomas(Liz),Barbara Graham(John), Eileen Heffernan (Stephen) and her 7 grandchildren, Tommy, Jack, Clare, Ryan, Maggie, Jillian and Daniel.
She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Murphy and Margaret Geheb and her brother, Thomas Reilly. She is predeceased by her husband John Francis Mescall, her sister Marie Pacher and husband Fred, her brother John Reilly and wife Peggy, her brother Tony Reilly and wife Bernadette, her brother Padraig Reilly and wife Barbara and brothers in law, Michael John Murphy and Henry Geheb, in addition to many loving nieces and nephews and cousins in America, Ireland, England and Australia.
