Obituary of Helen V. Graus
Helen Graus died in the comfort of her home on Monday, October 3rd at the age of 93. She was born on December 9, 1928 in Yonkers, NY to Charles and Sophie Karpinski.
She attended St. Casimir’s Grammar School. Upon graduating the High School of Commerce in Yonkers, she went on to work as a secretary for Dellwood Dairy where she met Frank, the love of her life. Helen and Frank were happily married for 57 years enjoying trips to local casinos, the Jersey shore, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Hawaii. Many holidays and celebrations were enjoyed at their home from backyard bbq’s to cozy homemade dinners. Helen loved the fall season and continued to host Thanksgiving dinner until the age of 90. She was an excellent baker well known for 7 layer cake, her pumpkin and chocolate pudding pies and Christmas cookies.
Helen expressed her artistic talent for crocheting, knitting and embroidery. In addition to friends and family receiving beautiful crocheted blankets upon the birth of a child, she donated many baby blankets to Project Linus, for children in need. Helen created a sense of joy and comfort and her home was a place that displayed that sentiment.
Helen is survived by her two children, Linda (Guy Bucci) and Frank Jr. (Marie Jedwabny), three grandchildren Patricia (Mario Szeliga), James and Jeannine and three great-grandchildren, Charles, Stephanie and Nicholas. She is predeceased by her sister Dorothy Krusko.
Helen will be remembered most for her good sense of humor, quick wit and “one liners”. Family was most important to her and she often expressed her love and gratitude. She will continue to live on in our memories and in the traditions she has passed on.
