Obituary of Anne Joyce

Anne Joyce passed away on October 26, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Peter Francis. Loving mother to Kevin and Susan (Brian). Proud grandmother of Kevin (Mairead), Kaitlin and Kerri  Ann. Cherished great grandmother to Derek, Desmond and Cian. Sister to Jack, Maureen, Josie and Bernie. Predeceased by her siblings Kate, Noreen, Tom and Pat.

Anne was an incredible mother who spread kindness and love while here on earth. Her deep faith and generous spirit was evident in her many good deeds.

Anne grew up the oldest of nine in Cloonlavish, Knock, County Mayo, Ireland. Her grandmother, Mary Halligan, raised her until she left for New York at 16. In 1953, she flew alone to the US to join her aunts, Kitty and Peg in the city. There she attended school while working at a shop to earn her tuition. After graduation from Thorpe Secretarial High School, Anne joined Retail Credit Corp., now Equifax.

Anne met Pete at a dance and fell in love with this US Army veteran from Tuam, County Galway, Ireland. She loved his wit, big heart, and warm smile. After they married, they had two children, Kevin & Susan. Once Anne raised her family, she returned to work as a travel agent at Crossroads Travel in the Bronx. She did many favors there and established lifelong friendships. In later years, Anne volunteered at the Irish Immigration Center and the Aisling Irish Center to help immigrants from all over.

Anne had a great circle of friends from all nationalities, both young & old. She treasured every person and loved to be able to offer her help. Anne found jobs and housing for those in need. She was often a counselor who listened without interruption. Anne and Pete had an open door for all. Those without family were invited to holiday dinners. Kind deeds were done quickly & without hesitation.  

She led a life in Christ, both generous and kind. Her belief in Jesus & our Blessed Mother was unbreakable. As Heaven welcomes the best mother on earth, we come together to celebrate, remember, and pray. 

Anne will be terribly missed by all.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10:45 A.M. in St. Barnabas Church, Bronx, NY

Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY
