Obituary of James Joseph Kelly

From an Irish immigrant family with a rich heritage, Jim grew up a Roman Catholic in the Bronx, NY. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1960. Growing up he loved watching the Yankees play at the stadium where his uncle was an NYPD cop and would get him in to see them. He also loved to play football. After discerning that the Priesthood wasn't his calling, he married Conceicao "Lula", a Brazilian who he met in Brazil. He had a great affection for the countryside and wetlands of the interior of Brazil in a small town bordering Paraguay called Bela Vista where he loved to hunt and fish with the locals.

In his final years he enjoyed watching football, especially the NY Giants. Eventually he was compelled to love his daughter's Scottish terrier dogs, Danny Boy and Gus. He traveled to Brazil every year and celebrated his 80^th and last birthday there. Jim has cousins in Michigan whom he looked forward to seeing again (Babs, Phil & Cheryl, Barbara, Philip, Josh, Jeanette, Michael).

He was in the process of building a house in Brazil, where he planned to live the rest of his days in a warm climate. However, God knows best and when the time came Jim accepted God's Will peacefully at home with his family. He is sorely missed by his wife Conceicao "Lula", his son James and daughter Joana.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may Your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00  P.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 10:45 A.M. in St. Barnabas Church, Bronx, NY

Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY
