Obituary of Antonio Angrisani
Antonio Angrisani, aged 91, of New York, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023
surrounded by his wife and children. Antonio was beloved everywhere he went and in every
role he played—he was a dedicated husband, and an exemplary father, grandfather, brother,
uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maria, his daughter Luisa (Marcelo),
son Anthony (Karla), and grandchildren, Isabela, Lucas, Valentina, Frankie and Johnnie. He was
predeceased by his eldest son, John (Dennisa).
Antonio emigrated from Italy to Argentina in 1950 and then again from Argentina to the United
States in 1977. He brought with him the traditions that he passed on to his children and
grandchildren. He taught us many things, to always make time for family on Sundays, to know
how to make homemade tomato sauce, how to play scopa, how to barbeque, how to re-wire a
house and how to have a good time. An electrician by trade but a comedian, singer, and
teacher at heart, Antonio shared the hard-won lessons he learned with those close to him,
providing wise counsel and funny stories in times of happiness and sorrow. After retiring, he
fulfilled his life-long dream of starting a business in 2004, opening Arthur Cantina together with
his sons, John and Anthony. He spent many happy days there winning over customers and
salespeople with his sharp wit and joking nature.
A devoted husband, he never missed an opportunity to buy his wife, Maria, flowers. A steadfast
father, he never missed an opportunity to sing our praises or to tell us to do the right thing. He
advised us with kindness and a firm hand, reminding us always that he wanted us to have a
better life than he had. He lived the American dream—putting his children through college and
watching his grandchildren excel and thrive. He will be missed immeasurably by his wife,
children, grandchildren, in-laws, and the many nieces, nephews, and friends that were touched
by his warm smile and gentle embrace. Of all the lessons he taught us, perhaps the most
important one is to remember, that no matter the pain or suffering, that there is always a
reason to smile and be happy.
